Konnichiwa everyone!
This is Yusuke (I'm new one for Andon Ryokan, nice to meet you!)
and I'm in charge of our social media.
It's been about 2 months since we've started posting Andon Ryokan Journal on our Instagram
On our journal, we introduce Japanese Culture and local places where customers must visit.
Just go and visit Instagram and enjoy reading the Journal!!
Writing this Journal is kind of hard for me because there are lot of things that we can't translate to English from Japanese,,, (well I've never been educated in English so just writing something in English is also hard though)
For example, how should we translate Maneki-Neko? (まねきねこ)

Let's break down the Japanese name and look up the meaning:
Maneki (まねき) means "Invitation"
Neko (ねこ) means "Cat"
So, English name of "Maneki-Neko" should be "Invitation Cat" ??
Well, we don't send any cats when we invite someone. It doesn't make sense at all...
Maneki-Neko is often placed in shops, hotels and restaurant in Japan because this cat looks like saying "come here" (Japanese gesture is also different from other countries gestures)
Ah, also the coin looks like it makes business go well.
So, maybe "Lucky cat" is better translation.
This is just one of the examples to explain how difficult the languages.
I'll do my best to write better journal for customers who are interested in Japanese culture!
See you next time!!
Yusuke
