Back to the Basic @ Shibamata

2010.06.06

When I first came here, I loved watching Japanese TV show especially restaurant and travel guide show. One day, I turned on TV and saw couple famous Japanese stars went touring little town and introduced a local famous Tempura restaurant. Since I am also Tempura’s fan, I really wanted to know where was that place, then I found out that the town is called “Shibamata” or known as Tora san’s city.
Even though, I searched on the Internet under “Shibamata”, there is not many information pop out, However, Tora san was famous Japanese actor in old day because of his series movies.
One year has gone by and I finally went to Shibamata…From Saitama, I took a train on Musashino line then changed to Joban line to Kanamachi Station, from Kanamachi, I took a train on Keisei Kanamachi to Shibamata Station. When I came out, Tora san statue is right in front of the station to welcome all visitors to his historical town.
First I went to Taishakuten temple which was built in 1629, it has been preserved in great condition. Then, I walked behind the temple along the little alley to Yamamoto-Tei, a beautiful Japanese style house of Enotsuke Yamamoto, In 1991 it’s opened to the public to enjoy Japanese garden and tea. Entrance fee is only 100 Yen. All the cafe menu is 500 Yen. Moreover, you can buy combination ticket (550 yen) here for Yamamoto-Tei and Tora san Kinen Museum which just cross the street behind this house.
Cross the street from Yamamoto-Tei is Edo River bank, along the river is bycicle track which will lead to Mizumoto Park. Another interesting thing to see is Negiri no Watashi, the one and last tranditional ferry boat in Tokyo exists, only 400 yen to cross from Shibamata to Matsudo.
After finished sightseeing, I got very hungry, of course, I won’t miss having the famous tempura at “大和家” on Taishakuten-Dori, simple Tendon started from 998 yen….I knew it’s right decision to come all the way here. Then, I tried Nori Dango from Toraya and Cream rollcake from a shop opposite to Toraya which was very delicious and cheap.
Before I left this town, I stopped by a traditional snack and candy shop, As I walked inside, I felt like I was young again, all the things I used to see were all there….Moreover, it’s very cheap and a perfect little souvenirs for kids.
I think it’s one of the best day trip I had in Tokyo, after spending time in the city, it’s good to leave and experience local suburb lifestyle.

The Joy of Tea Drinking

2010.06.05

It’s one of the good points for the people living in Tokyo to be able to visit varietry galleries naturally : )

I went to Idemitsu Museum of Art in Hibiya today. They had an exhibition “The Joy of Tea Drinking”.
Many beautiful antiqu teathings were displayed in there and we also could know about histories and traditions of Japanese tea. I saw every works and dispalys as I spent a quite long time.I really enjoyed it.
I also really liked the museum. There was a space where we could view the Imperial Palace as we were having a cup of tea. It’s really relaxing and beautiful : )
Every galleries has their respective feature.I would like to visit every galleries in Tokyo someday!

My Top Japanese Cusine

2010.06.04

Today, I was so tired from tough mock-up Japanese entrance examination for foreign student. Even though, I will not attend this examination, it was a good practice for Japanese Language Placement Test (JLPT) which is more common among those whom needs to have Japanese skill certificate to apply for a job. Anyway, my topic today is not the JLPT or any exams but my favorite restaurants ranking!!!
Japanese food has always been my favorites cuisines since my father is Japanese, he oftens teaches me to cook home Japanese food. Ever since, I have been living in Saitama, I oftens go wandering around several towns to search for delicious, good quality restaurant with reasonable price. So, I would like to introduce my top 5 favorite places.

 1. Tonkatsu Maisen, Royal-Host Street, Omotesando….The best blackpork Tonkatsu in town

 2. Kyuushuu Jankara Ramen, Harajuku….Kyuushuu style’s tonkotsu soup ramen with melty marinated chuck pork and half boiled egg

 3. Tsunahachi Tempura, Shinjuku…Freshly made hot tempura..Enjoy it while watching the chef cooking in front of you is the best.

 4. Otakufu Okonomiyaki, Shimokitazawa….The original Otafuku’s Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki, the most favorite okonomiyaki restaurant I have been to so far.

5. Tsuru Tontan, Roppongi,Simple Udon in highclass style….My recommendation is Ebi cream udon, you can also choose the size of udon. During lunch extra volume order is free of charge.
There are more places I would like to introduce to you however, some is not Japanese restaurant. I think the most enjoyable thing you can do here is to discover hiden spot with great food and service that will last in your memory forever.

My niece

2010.06.03

I went to kanagawa prefecture to see my niece, she was just born yesterday!! She were sleeping peacefully all the time.  It was 2 weeks early but she and her mother are ok.  They are still in a hospital so I had to say good bye. I don’t know when I can see them next…

I’m very happy to have new family. It’s a special moment just like a nephew’s birth, he’s 3years old now.  In the afternoon we went to a beach which is near their place. It’s very nice view and took some pictures. I enjoying to feel his growth every time I see him.

I want to be with them more but I didn’t have time. I can’t wait to see them next.
